Material Safety & Certification Center
Most customers focus on appearance when choosing a sex doll the face, the body shape, the realism. But what you cant see is just as important as what you can.
Your doll will be in direct, prolonged contact with your skin. The material isnt just about how it feelsits about whether its safe for your body.
The truth is, not all silicone sex dolls are made of silicone. Many products on the market claim to be 100% silicone but are actually a blend of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) and silicone. Some lower-quality materials contain harmful plasticizers (phthalates) that can disrupt endocrine function and pose long-term health risks.
Thats why we strongly recommend choosing well-known brands and reputable manufacturers who are willing to back up their material claims with third-party lab reportsnot just marketing words.
Below, we explain the key safety certifications and tests that a genuine, high-quality silicone doll should pass. Weve also compiled certificates from our partner brands so you can verify for yourself.
Key Certifications & Tests for Sex Dolls
? CE Marking Mandatory for EU Market Entry
What it is: CE marking is a mandatory conformity mark for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA). It is not a single test but a declaration that the product meets all applicable EU health, safety, and environmental protection requirements.
For silicone dolls, CE compliance typically involves:
RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU) restricts hazardous substances
REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006) controls chemicals of very high concern
General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) ensures overall product safety
What it means for you: CE marking means the manufacturer has legally declared that the product meets EU safety standards. It is the minimum legal requirement for selling in Europe. A product without CE marking cannot be legally imported into the EU.
? FDA Compliance US Food & Drug Administration Standards
What it is: FDA compliance for silicone materials typically refers to FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 the regulation covering rubber articles intended for repeated use in contact with food. This is the standard against which silicone materials are tested for safety in the US market. Some manufacturers also refer to this as FDA-grade silicone.
Important distinction: FDA compliance for silicone is a material-level certificationit confirms that the raw silicone material meets US food-contact safety standards. It does not automatically certify that the finished doll product has been tested for mechanical safety, small parts, or other product-specific risks. For a completed toy, additional testing to standards like ASTM F963 or CPSIA may be necessary.
What it means for you: FDA-compliant material means the silicone itself is safe from a chemical standpoint and does not leach harmful substances. Many reputable brands use FDA-grade platinum silicone, which is also the material standard for medical-grade silicone products.
? RoHS Compliance (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)
What it tests: RoHS restricts the use of six hazardous substances in products:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr??)
- Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)
What it means for you: A RoHS-compliant doll contains no harmful heavy metals that could be absorbed through skin contact over time. This is a core component of CE compliance.
? SGS / UL / TV Test Reports
What it tests: SGS, UL, and TV are globally recognized independent testing, inspection, and certification organizations.
What it means for you: A report from one of these institutions adds an extra layer of trust. These organizations are known for strict, unbiased testing protocols.
? SVHC Substances of Very High Concern
SVHC stands for Substances of Very High Concern a list of dangerous chemicals maintained by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) under the REACH regulation.
What makes a substance an SVHC? A chemical makes the list if it is:
- Carcinogenic causes cancer
- Mutagenic causes genetic mutations
- Toxic to reproduction harms fertility or fetal development
- Persistent and bioaccumulative doesnt break down and builds up in the body
What it means for your doll Passing SVHC screening means the product contains no SVHC substance above 0.1% by weight. In short, your doll is free from chemicals known to cause cancer, genetic damage, or reproductive harm.
